Bull Radish™

Unique, Exclusive Genetics Specifically Selected for Use as a Cover Crop

Bull Radish™ is one of the few commercialized brassica products specifically bred as a cover crop because of its performance during 10+ years of screening. It’s an excellent choice for those growers just getting started using cover crops.

With over 10 years of university research and on-farm testing, Bull Radish™ has proven to deliver remarkable improvement in your soil quality. When using Bull Radish™ as a cover crop ahead of cash crops, the following results have been recorded and reported. This cover crop radish delivers some of the highest returns on investment of any cover crop product. It really does pay you back!

  • Corn yield increase of 10-12%.

  • Soybean yield increase of 9-11%.

  • Winter wheat yield increase of 5 to 12 bushels per acre*

    * Depending on conditions and when planted with winter wheat

It's all about the taproot

The superior genetics behind this amazingly aggressive brassica taproot are evident in the Bull Radish™. No other cover crop radish has a consistently single taproot that blasts through compaction like it's not even there.

It hits the mark every time. It drills down where steel cannot reach, it loosens the soil naturally and better than any tillage equipment possibly can.

  • Easy to plant, reaching full growth within 30 days

  • Taproot typically reaches over 30" – deeper depending on soil and planting conditions

  • Blasts through soil compaction that stops other cover crops cold

  • Soaks up N, P, Ca and other key soil nutrients

  • Winter kills when temperatures reach mid teens for a couple nights

  • Rapid spring decay results in massive soil voids for air and water movement

  • Spring soil warms up and dries quickly for better planting conditions

  • Improves drainage and air movement

  • Helps suppress nematodes

  • Attracts earthworms like a magnet

  • Shades out winter annual weeds with dense foliage cover

  • Plant-available N released during radish decay

  • N, P, Ca available when new plant seeds need it most

Planting and Control Guide

Planting: Plant 3-10 weeks prior to first frost.

Seeding Depth: 0.25 - 0.5" Can be planted 1" in light soils if necessary to reach moisture. Comparable to Alfalfa seed on drill chart (reduce by 10%).

Seeding Rate:

  • Drilling: (7.5" rows): 6-7 lbs. per acre

  • Broadcast / Aerial: 8-10 lbs. per acre

  • Precision Planting (15" with 4" in-row spacing): 4-6 lbs. per acre
(Kinze Brush Meter with Backing Plate - Small Sugar Beet Plate)

  • For Forage: Increase drilling rate to 8-10 lbs. per acre

Control: Bull Radish™ winter kills with two or three nights in the mid-teens. If planted very early as a cover crop, flowering can develop before they are winter killed. This can be controlled with mowing, grazing or burndown using one quart of glyphosate along with one pint of 2,4-D equivalent at flowering.
